Vertical Blinds Fail in Small, Fixable Ways

Vertical blinds almost never fail all at once. A carrier cracks, a hook lets go, one louvre drops, the chain at the bottom breaks — and the blind keeps half-working while it slowly gets worse. Every one of those is a small plastic component that costs very little to replace, which is why replacing a whole vertical blind because a few louvres have dropped is rarely the right call.

Atlas Blind & Curtain repairs vertical blinds across Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and the Redlands. We carry carriers, hooks, louvres, bottom weights, chains and track components for the common Australian systems.

Common Vertical Blind Faults We Fix

If your verticals are doing any of this, they are repairable:

  • Louvres dropping off the track — the plastic carrier or the hook has cracked. We replace the carriers and hooks along the run, not just the one that failed, since they age together.
  • Louvres will not rotate — a carrier has come off the tilt rod or the rod itself has disengaged. We re-engage or replace the affected carriers.
  • Bottom chain broken or missing — we replace the chain and the bottom weights so the louvres hang straight and stop swinging.
  • Track sagging in the middle — a wide blind with too few fixings, or fixings pulling out. We re-support and re-fix the track into sound material.
  • Blind will not draw across — the cord, the wand or the traverse mechanism has failed. We service or replace the operating system.
  • Damaged, creased or faded louvres — individual louvres can be replaced. We match the colour and width where stock allows.
  • Blind is stiff or gritty — the track needs cleaning and servicing, which is a maintenance job rather than a parts job.

Replacement Louvres and Colour Matching

Vertical louvres come in standard widths — 89mm and 127mm cover most Australian blinds — so replacing a handful is usually straightforward. The honest caveat is colour. Louvres that have hung in a west-facing window for years will have faded, and a brand-new louvre beside them can look obviously newer. We will hold a sample up against yours before fitting so you can decide whether to replace a few or re-louvre the whole blind.

If the louvres are past matching, re-louvring the existing track is still cheaper than a new blind. Our modern vertical blinds page covers the fabric options, and vertical blinds versus panel glides is worth a read if the blind covers a sliding door.

Repair or Replace? Our Honest Rule

Carriers, hooks, chains and a few louvres are a repair, every time. Re-louvring a whole blind is worth it when the track and mechanism are sound. Where it stops making sense is a sagging or damaged track in a very wide opening, or a blind that has already been repaired repeatedly — at that point you are maintaining a worn system and a replacement is the better value. We will say which one you have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only two louvres have fallen off. Do I need a whole new blind?

No. That is a carrier or hook failure and it is one of the cheapest repairs we do. We would normally replace the carriers across the run rather than just the failed ones, because they have all aged the same and doing them once saves a second call-out.

Can you match my existing louvres?

Often, on standard 89mm and 127mm widths. Fading is the limiting factor rather than availability — we will show you a sample against your existing louvres before fitting anything.

Can you shorten vertical blinds that drag on the floor?

Yes. Louvres can be trimmed and re-weighted, which is a common job after new flooring or carpet goes in.

How much will the repair cost?

It depends on the type of blind and which parts it needs, so we quote before any work starts. Simple mechanical jobs are quick and low-cost; motor and fabric work costs more. Describe the fault and send a photo and we can give you a guide estimate over the phone.

How quickly can you come out?

We try to fit repairs in quickly, often within a few days. If it is a privacy or security problem — a bedroom blind stuck open, for instance — tell us and we will try to prioritise the visit.

What warranty comes with the repair?

We warranty the parts we supply and our repair labour. We cannot warranty the rest of an older blind, but we make sure the fix itself is solid.

Do you repair blinds you did not supply?

Yes. We repair blinds and curtains regardless of where they were bought. Most use standard components we can source or substitute; proprietary systems usually need manufacturer parts, which we can order in.
