A venetian blind is one of the most repairable window coverings there is. The slats, cords, ladder tape and tilt mechanism are all serviceable parts, so a blind that will not lift, will not tilt, or hangs crooked is usually a mechanical fault rather than a blind at the end of its life. Replacing the whole unit when a cord has frayed or a tilter has stripped is money that did not need to be spent.
Atlas Blind & Curtain repairs aluminium and timber venetians across Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and the Redlands. We carry cord, ladder tape, tilt mechanisms, cord locks and wands for the common Australian systems, and we can match or substitute slats on most profiles.
These are the problems we are called out to most often on venetians:
Aluminium venetians are light and the usual failures are the cord lock, the tilt mechanism and bent slats. They are quick to re-cord and slats are widely available in standard 25mm and 50mm widths, so most aluminium repairs are same-visit jobs.
Timber and faux-timber venetians are heavier, which puts more load on the cords and ladder tape — so re-cording and re-taping are the common jobs, and they take longer. Real timber slats can also cup or split in Brisbane humidity, particularly in bathrooms and kitchens. If several timber slats have warped, we will tell you honestly whether re-slatting or replacement is the better value.
If yours are beyond repair, our aluminium venetian and timber venetian guides cover the replacement options.
If the slats are sound and the fault is mechanical — cord, tilter, tape or lock — repair is almost always the better value, and it is the work we would rather do. If a high proportion of slats are bent, cracked or faded, or the blind is badly undersized for the window, the repair stops making sense and we will say so and quote both options so you can choose.
Usually yes. We carry cord and ladder tape for the common systems, so most re-cording is done in your home during the visit. Heavier timber venetians with unusual tape spacing sometimes come back to our Darra workshop, and we will tell you before we take it.
Often. Standard aluminium widths and common timber finishes we can usually match or come very close. If the colour has faded with years of sun, a new slat can look brighter than its neighbours — we will show you before we fit it.
Warped timber cannot be straightened, so those slats need replacing. If it keeps happening, the room is telling you something — an aluminium or PVC venetian handles Brisbane bathroom humidity far better, and we can quote that as an alternative.
It depends on the type of blind and which parts it needs, so we quote before any work starts. Simple mechanical jobs are quick and low-cost; motor and fabric work costs more. Describe the fault and send a photo and we can give you a guide estimate over the phone.
We try to fit repairs in quickly, often within a few days. If it is a privacy or security problem — a bedroom blind stuck open, for instance — tell us and we will try to prioritise the visit.
We warranty the parts we supply and our repair labour. We cannot warranty the rest of an older blind, but we make sure the fix itself is solid.
Yes. We repair blinds and curtains regardless of where they were bought. Most use standard components we can source or substitute; proprietary systems usually need manufacturer parts, which we can order in.
Not sure which applies? Start at our blind repair service page and we will point you to the right fix.
We repair across the whole Brisbane region from our Darra workshop — the western suburbs including Jindalee, Mount Ommaney, Indooroopilly and Chapel Hill, the southern suburbs like Oxley, Sunnybank and Algester, and the inner city and northside from Kangaroo Point to The Gap, Everton Park and Aspley.
Beyond Brisbane we travel to Ipswich — Booval, Brassall, Goodna and Springfield — across Logan to Springwood and Daisy Hill, and into the Redlands at Cleveland and Wellington Point. If you are outside these areas, call and ask — we will tell you honestly whether we can get to you.
Tell us what is wrong and send a photo if you can — we can usually give you a guide estimate over the phone, then confirm it on site before any work starts.
